Best Day Trips from Georgetown and Stone Oak Ranch

Sometimes you just gotta take a small road trip. Finding the time to do so, however, can be a challenge. Fortunately, there are tons of great activities not far from Georgetown and Stone Oak Ranch.

Georgetown itself is a fantastic day trip destination, full of activities. With a lovely main street, great bars and restaurants, good shopping, and small-town events that give you the warm and fuzzies, there’s something here for everyone.

Folks who are into athletics and have a penchant for extreme sports will be given a run for their money with the Challenge Course. This sweat-inducing course offers wall climbing, ropes, rappelling, and other activities that are great for a team or group.

Inner Space Cavern is one of the best-preserved caves in all of Texas. Their tours are truly remarkable, with thousands of stalactites and stalagmites on view in all their shimmering splendor. Inner Space was discovered in 1963 when boreholes were drilled to test for a highway overpass, and a cavity was found in the ground. It opened up a whole new world and opened to the public not long after.

The Annual Red Poppy Festival. You will not want to miss this if you’re in the area in late April! Affectionately known as ‘Popptoberfest,’ from April 22 – 24, it’s three days of Red Poppy Fun! It’s a hugely popular local event that gives props to artists and bands, with live performances across three stages turning out good time vibes. Starting Friday, artisans begin to set up their wares as the delightful aroma of food vendors begin to waft through the air.

Then on Saturday, the event really kicks off with a Poppy Parade and Car Show. The kiddos can get crafty in the Fun Zone, athletes can lace up for a 5k run, and of course, music will be on tap throughout.

The Williamson Museum is an amazing local museum promoting the unique heritage and culture of Williamson County. The educational programming, exhibits, monthly hands-on events, and more, is a great way to spend an afternoon. The museum also gives tours of the Historic Williamson County Courthouse. See their website for up-to-date hours and times.

Downtown Georgetown Market Days has more great shopping. Be sure to mark the second Saturday of the month from March to November. This market features a variety of arts and crafts booths, ironworks, clothing, collectibles, festive foods, and more.

See a Live Show at the Palace Theatre. One of historic downtown Georgetown’s gems, this theater gives outstanding performances year-round. Musicals, dramas, and comedies are just the beginning of the fun. Makes for a great date night! Or, grab your girlfriends for a magical evening outdoors during the warmer months, held in the Palace Courtyard behind the theater after sunset.

Hike or Bike the San Gabriel Trail. Along this 9-mile trail, take your time hiking or biking along the river while looking for birds that call this river home. Benches and water fountains are available for convenience. After a great time on the trails, head to Gabriel Park to enjoy a picnic underneath one of the 200-year-old oak trees.
